Gustafer Yellowgold’s Mellow Fever – Review

October, 2009

By Sarah Bardeen

They say it's children's music, but if you close your eyes at a Gustafer Yellowgold concert, you could be forgiven for thinking you were hearing the next up-and-coming indie sensation. (And indeed, creator Morgan Taylor has opened for acts like the Polyphonic Spree and Wilco.) So let's say it: this isn't children's music. It's lovely, literate indie pop that won't raise eyebrows at an adult party or provide fuel for inconvenient questions from your kids. Taylor is several generations removed from the Kinks and the Beach Boys, but they loom as spiritual godfathers for this sweet album.
